Seek to understand...

03 April 2017

Decades ago (sadly) when I started my career in financial services, I was taught at the outset that you should 'seek to understand and then be understood' when referring to a client engagement. Both points are as important as each other, but 'being understood' cannot happen without understanding the client, their needs, desires, plans, objectives and style first.

For me, one of the best parts of financial planning is that we are all different, as indicated above...and that's great. The world would be a very dull place if we were all the same! And this means that the financial plans we prepare are also all different based on each individual client need. And the advisory team at Chapters Financial love that, because it means our work is different every day, that each piece of financial planning we offer is individual...just like the client.

Communicating our bespoke financial planning advice is also vital in ensuring that the client understands what our solution to their needs is and why it works. We work with clients, not customers. In our opinion, clients stay with us for the long term, returning to us for updates and advice for their future. Customers buy once and go. This is why seeking to understand and be understood is so vital, because as a client of Chapters Financial, you are likely to return when needed over time and our financial planning will stand the test of time, evolving as you do, to meet your long term objectives, or managing expectations if what you have and what you desire don't match.

We are proud of the service we offer, but we are also honoured to share in people's varying lives as they change. It's fascinating! We have many clients who have enjoyed our service for over a decade and we look forward to growing our business into the future. There is nothing more special and exciting than seeking to understand.

We look forward to being a part of your plans soon!
